Rep. Burgess Owens, who represents Utah’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on September 9, 2025, addressing education outcomes, union priorities, and faith-based community engagement.
In his first post at 15:54 UTC, Owens highlighted recent findings from The Nation’s Report Card. He wrote, “The Nation’s Report Card reveals some of the worst results in decades
– 45% of 12th graders not proficient in math, 32% not proficient in reading
– Math scores at their lowest since 2005
– Reading scores at their lowest since 1992
Thankfully, under President @realDonaldTrump, https://t.co/0evcVni4zo“.
Later that day at 16:23 UTC, Owens criticized certain unions for what he described as inappropriate political activity. He stated, “It’s disgusting that some unions are pushing antisemitic and anti-Israel priorities instead of protecting their members.
As @EdWorkforceCmte exposed today, unions must defend ALL workers, not funnel dues into hate, discrimination, and political agendas. https://t.co/jqazSAEFzR“.
At 20:29 UTC on the same day, Owens shared details about a meeting with local faith leaders. He posted, “Honored to meet with members of the Utah National Day of Prayer Task Force. We talked about the power of faith and asked God to continue blessing the United States of America as we prepare to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary. https://t.co/3ty1IpJL02”.
Owens has served in Congress since replacing Ben McAdams in 2021 and currently resides in Salt Lake City. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and now aged 71, he is an alumnus of the University of Miami where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
