U.S. Representative Burgess Owens, who represents Utah’s 4th district in Congress, addressed a range of national issues in a series of posts on September 3, 2025. The topics included education standards, faith-based organizations’ role in federal grants, and support for the Utah National Guard.
In his first post on September 3, Owens questioned U.S. spending on education compared to student performance: “Why are we spending more than almost any country in the world only to fall behind in math and reading? @EdWorkforceCmte believes America’s education system should lead the world – and that starts with getting back to basics and putting students first.”
Later that day, Owens commented on recent actions by the U.S. Department of Labor under President Donald Trump: “Faith, family, and freedom are at the heart of our nation. Glad to see @USDOL under President @realDonaldTrump restoring a level playing field in the grant process and ending the radical DEI agenda that sidelined America’s faith-based organizations.”
Owens also expressed appreciation for members of the Utah National Guard following a visit to Camp Williams: “Appreciate the @UTNationalGuard for hosting me and my team at Camp Williams. Utah is grateful for the men and women whose courage, service, and sacrifice keep our state strong and our nation safe.”
Owens has served as a member of Congress since 2021 after replacing Ben McAdams as representative for Utah’s 4th district. He was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently resides in Salt Lake City. Prior to his political career, he graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree.
