Rep. Burgess Owens, a U.S. Congressman representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, shared updates on education spending, energy policy, and defense manufacturing in a series of posts on September 5, 2025.
In a post at 15:24 UTC, Owens commented on the state of education funding and student performance: “We’re spending more per student than almost any country and our kids are falling further behind. That’s failure.
@EdWorkforceCmte is getting back to basics, raising standards, and putting students on a path to success.”
Later that day at 17:14 UTC, he highlighted his discussions with local energy stakeholders: “Spoke with @UAMPS_, UMPA, and Fairview community members about our work in Washington to restore American energy dominance and give Utah families the reliable, affordable power they deserve. Thanks for the warm welcome!”
At 17:42 UTC the same day, Owens referenced recent legislative action by House Republicans: “This week, @HouseGOP passed the Made-in-America Defense Act to cut red tape, boost U.S. manufacturing, and strengthen our national security.
Faster delivery of U.S. defense equipment means more jobs for Americans in Utah and across the country. “
Owens has represented Utah’s 4th District since replacing Ben McAdams in 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently residing in Salt Lake City at age 71, Owens graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
