Rep. Burgess Owens, Chairman of the Higher Education Subcommittee and U.S. Congressman representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, highlighted recent congressional activities on education and healthcare in a series of posts on November 19, 2025.
In his first post of the day, Owens addressed foreign influence in American universities. He stated, “Great discussion today with @DefendingEd on foreign influence in our universities. As Chairman of the Higher Ed Subcommittee, I’ve made this fight a priority. Transparency, accountability, and zero tolerance for foreign interference – that’s how we put students first and make” (November 19, 2025).
Later that day, Owens discussed workforce readiness initiatives at an Education and Workforce Committee hearing. He posted, “At today’s @EdWorkforceCmte hearing, we focused on what matters: classroom-to-career pathways.
In Utah, districts like Jordan are leading the way – higher graduation rates, 16,000+ credentials earned, and students gaining the skills to succeed in today’s workforce.

Addressing healthcare policy concerns later that evening, Owens criticized current Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rules regarding home infusion treatments. He wrote, “CMS rules have made it harder for patients, especially in rural communities, to get essential treatments at home. I co-sponsored @VernBuchanan’s Preserving Patient Access to Home Infusion Act to fix this issue, restore the benefit Congress intended, and keep care affordable and” (November 19, 2025).
Owens has represented Utah’s 4th District since defeating Ben McAdams in the 2020 election cycle. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently residing in Salt Lake City at age 71,
he graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
