Rep. Burgess Owens, who represents Utah’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on September 30, 2025, regarding the potential government shutdown and the actions of Congressional Democrats.

In a post made at 20:02 UTC, Owens wrote, “Even the media admits Democrats are steering us into a shutdown to send a message to President Trump. FACT: @HouseGOP passed a clean, short-term CR to keep the government open – the same one Democrats supported 13 times during the Biden admin.”

Later that evening at 21:38 UTC, he added, “The union representing 18,000+ Border Patrol agents is urging Senate Democrats to stop the political games, pass the House’s clean CR, and keep the government OPEN.”

At 22:34 UTC on September 30, Owens stated, “65% of Americans say Democrats should NOT shut down the government. Here’s a reminder of Democrats’ demands: Free health care for illegal aliens $500 million for liberal media outlets $50 billion cut to rural health care Billions for DEI and foreign climate projects”

Burgess Owens has served as Utah’s representative in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Ben McAdams. He was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently resides in Salt Lake City. Owens graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
