Rep. Burgess Owens, who represents Utah’s 4th congressional district in the U.S. Congress, highlighted local achievements and policy issues in a series of tweets posted on July 22 and 23, 2025.
On July 22, Owens recognized a longtime educator from Gunnison Valley. He wrote, “Mr. Mark Otten has spent 40 years teaching at the same Utah high school he once attended. Now his students are leading the state and nation in academic achievement. That’s a legacy! Honored to recognize this incredible Gunnison Valley educator on the House Floor today.”
The following day, Owens addressed concerns about Utah’s agricultural sector, specifically sheep ranchers facing challenges from international trade practices. On July 23 he stated, “Utah is one of the top sheep-producing states in the country, but decades of unfair trade and weak enforcement have crushed our ranchers. @RepMaloyUtah and I are working with @USTradeRep to stand up for Utah producers, restore fairness, and put America First.”
Later that same day, Owens commented on recent developments regarding gender policies in sports organizations after an executive order by former President Donald Trump. He posted, “BIG win for fairness, safety, and common sense. Months after President @realDonaldTrump’s executive order, the U.S. Olympic Committee is finally doing the right thing: keeping men out of women’s sports. Now it’s time for the IOC to follow suit.”
Owens has served as a member of Congress since 2021 after replacing Ben McAdams as representative for Utah’s 4th district (source: https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/O000019). Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently residing in Salt Lake City, Owens graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
