Rep. Burgess Owens, a U.S. Congressman representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, has recently used his social media platform to highlight concerns about federal education policy, agricultural trade, and national economic priorities.

On August 1, 2025, Owens praised fellow lawmakers for their critique of the Department of Education. In a post, he stated: “Great op-ed from @RepMaryMiller and @RepMarkHarrisNC. They’re absolutely right – the Department of Education has delivered a terrible return on investment. It’s long past time to return education to where it belongs: with families and local communities.”

Later that day, Owens addressed the challenges facing Utah ranchers amid rising imports. He wrote: “Utah is one of the top sheep-producing states in the nation – but imports have surged 500%, and our ranchers are paying the price.

@RepMaloyUtah and I are urging @USTradeRep to restore a level playing field because American ranchers should come FIRST.”

In an evening post on August 1, Owens voiced support for former President Donald Trump’s approach to economic policy. He commented: “President @realDonaldTrump understands trade, understands business, and is looking out for our country.

He’s securing historic deals that grow our economy and put America First – and we’re only six months in.”

Owens has represented Utah’s 4th District since defeating Ben McAdams in 2020 and taking office in 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951, he resides in Salt Lake City and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami (1974).
