Burgess Owens, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, shared several updates and reflections through his social media platform on July 7, 2025.
In a tribute to a World War II hero, Owens noted that “Nearly 80 years after his heroic sacrifice in WWII, 1st Lt. George F. Wilson, Jr. of Bountiful, Utah is finally coming home.” He explained that the remains of Lt. Wilson were recovered and identified after extensive efforts by his family and the Department of Defense. The congressman emphasized Lt. Wilson’s courage and legacy in his post.
Expressing concern for those affected by recent events in Texas, Owens conveyed his thoughts and prayers on July 7: “Continuing to pray for our neighbors in Texas as they face unimaginable loss.” He acknowledged the efforts of first responders working amid the tragedy and extended wishes for comfort and healing to all families involved. This sentiment was shared in his message.
Owens also highlighted his meeting with representatives from Disabled American Veterans on July 7. He expressed gratitude towards Jim and Jerry for discussing issues faced by veterans, particularly regarding funding gaps. Owens stated, “Our nation owes these men and women a debt we can never repay,” emphasizing the importance of addressing these challenges as noted in his statement.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, Burgess Owens has lived a life dedicated to public service since graduating from the University of Miami in 1974 with a BS degree. Currently residing in Salt Lake City at age 71, he continues to serve his constituents with dedication.
