Rep. Burgess Owens, who represents Utah’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media between August 25 and August 26, 2025, addressing topics ranging from education funding to commemorating fallen service members.
On August 25, Owens criticized the National Education Association (NEA), stating, “The NEA spends under 10% of its budget on representational activities for teachers but pours nearly four times that into radical left-wing agendas. You’d think their only agenda would be supporting teachers and improving student outcomes – but it’s not.”
The following day, Owens marked the anniversary of the Abbey Gate terrorist attack at Kabul airport by honoring those who died: “We will never forget the service and ultimate sacrifice of the 13 brave Americans, including Utah’s own Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, who were killed in the Abbey Gate terrorist attack four years ago today. God bless these heroes and their Gold Star families. “
Later on August 26, he reflected on his participation in a policy discussion hosted by Sutherland Institute: “Always a pleasure to join @SutherlandInst’s Congressional Series to share an update on our work in DC, from education wins in the One Big Beautiful Bill to @EdWorkforceCmte’s focus on preparing students for the workforce and returning education to the states. Thanks for having”
Owens has represented Utah’s 4th District since replacing Ben McAdams in 2021. He was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently resides in Salt Lake City. Owens graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
