Rep. Burgess Owens, a U.S. Congressman representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, recently posted a series of messages on his social media account addressing national and religious matters.
On October 15, 2025, Owens extended his support to new leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, stating: “I am extending my very best wishes and support to President Dallin H. Oaks and Counselors Henry B. Eyring and D. Todd Christopherson as they begin their service and ministry as the new First Presidency of the @Ch_JesusChrist. These good men have dedicated their lives to serving”.
The following day, October 16, Owens commented on ongoing government funding issues in Congress. He wrote: “Senate Democrats have now voted 10 TIMES to keep the government closed. Schumer says ‘every day gets better for us,’ but every day gets worse for America’s service members, Border Patrol, air traffic controllers, TSA agents, Capitol Police officers, and federal workers.”
Later that same day, Owens credited former President Donald Trump for a temporary measure to pay military personnel during the government shutdown, while criticizing Democratic lawmakers: “Thanks to President @realDonaldTrump, our troops won’t miss a paycheck this month – a temporary fix as the Democrat Shutdown drags on. It’s unconscionable and unacceptable for Democrats to play political games at the expense of America’s service members and their families.”
Owens, who was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently resides in Salt Lake City, has been active in national politics since replacing Ben McAdams in Congress. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami.
