Rep. Burgess Owens, U.S. Congressman representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, has used his social media platform to address the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Utah residents and businesses.
On October 20, 2025, Owens criticized Democratic lawmakers for their role in the federal government shutdown. He wrote, “A government shutdown should NEVER be used as a political game. But that’s exactly what Democrats have done. Every day their shutdown drags on, Utahns pay the price – from missed paychecks and delayed support for families to frozen small business loans.”
Later that day, Owens highlighted a visit to Enyo Energy in Eagle Mountain, praising their efforts to provide reliable energy solutions amid rapid population growth in the area. In his post, he stated, “Great visit with Enyo Energy in Eagle Mountain, where they’re meeting Utah’s growing energy needs with an all-of-the-above approach. With Eagle Mountain’s population projected to exceed 250,000, reliable power is essential and Enyo is leading the way.”
In another post on October 20, Owens returned focus to the effects of the shutdown on local businesses: “Utah’s small businesses are paying the price for the Democrat Shutdown. An estimated $60 MILLION in SBA loans are frozen – meaning fewer jobs, delayed projects, and stalled growth on Main Street. Senate Democrats could end this painful and unnecessary shutdown today.”
Owens has represented Utah’s 4th district since replacing Ben McAdams in 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently residing in Salt Lake City at age 71, Owens holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami (1974).
