Rep. Burgess Owens, who represents Utah’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform to address ongoing concerns related to a government shutdown and its effects on both national services and Utah residents.
On November 3, 2025, Owens stated that “The Democrat Shutdown is hurting America’s National Parks, stalling permitting, freezing jobs, and delaying energy projects critical to our national security. It only takes FIVE Senate Democrats to reopen the government.”
Later that evening, he highlighted the impact of the shutdown on public assistance programs: “86,000 Utah households depend on SNAP. Because Democrats voted 14 times to keep the government closed, 42 MILLION Americans didn’t receive their benefits on November 1. Thankful to President @realDonaldTrump for doing everything he can to help Americans during the Democrat” (November 3, 2025).
In a separate post on November 4, Owens shifted focus to local infrastructure with a visit to an energy facility: “Had the pleasure of touring the Payson Power Plant, where leaders are preparing for our state’s future energy needs. Utah is growing – and fast – and Payson is helping to lead the charge to ensure reliable, long-term energy resiliency for generations to come.”
Owens has represented Utah’s 4th District since taking office in 2021 after defeating Ben McAdams. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and now residing in Salt Lake City at age 71, Owens holds a BS from the University of Miami earned in 1974.
