Rep. Burgess Owens, U.S. Congressman representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, posted a series of tweets on September 8, 2025, highlighting community events, federal workforce policy changes, and concerns about foreign funding in higher education.
In a tweet published at 15:04 UTC, Owens described his participation in a local event: “It was my honor to join Sandy’s National Day of Service interfaith ceremony honoring Utah’s first responder heroes. Inspired to see the community unite in gratitude for the men and women who serve and protect us every day. https://t.co/5aeYDFi5BQ”.
At 16:02 UTC the same day, Owens commented on proposed changes to federal workforce development policy: “President @realDonaldTrump promised to jumpstart our nation’s workforce and prepare Americans for the jobs of the future. Moving workforce development from @USEdGov to @USDOL is a commonsense step that will help students and workers succeed. https://t.co/8mrej2FkKx”.
Later, at 17:42 UTC, he raised concerns about compliance with foreign funding disclosure laws among higher education institutions: “Only 40% of America’s colleges and universities are complying with foreign funding disclosure laws, putting our students, research, and national security at risk. That’s unacceptable, and @usedgov is right to investigate. https://t.co/e3G0Izcmq6”.
Owens has served as Utah’s representative in Congress since replacing Ben McAdams in 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951, he currently resides in Salt Lake City and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami (1974).
