Rep. Burgess Owens, U.S. Congressman representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, recently posted a series of messages on social media highlighting local infrastructure developments, education priorities, and concerns about college loan transparency.

On September 24, 2025, Owens congratulated Savage Companies for launching a new rail line in Tooele County. He wrote: “Congratulations to @SavageCo1946 on opening America’s newest short line railroad in Tooele County! This is a major win for Utah’s infrastructure and economy, and we’re grateful to @UnionPacific, @UTPortAuthority, Tooele County leaders, and the Savage team for making it possible.”

The following day, Owens addressed the importance of literacy in education. On September 25, he posted: “September is National Literacy Month! With reading scores in decline, @EdWorkforceCmte is committed to ensuring every student has the foundation for lifelong learning and opportunity, and we’re glad to have a strong partner in @usedgov to make literacy a national priority.”

Later that same day, Owens expressed concern over student debt practices at higher education institutions. He stated: “Colleges are packaging loans in ways that mislead students and families, leaving too many buried in debt with no way out. At last week’s Higher Ed Subcommittee hearing, we focused on bringing transparency and accountability to end this deception.”

Owens’ recent posts reflect his legislative interests as a representative from Utah’s 4th District. He succeeded Ben McAdams in Congress in 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently residing in Salt Lake City at age 71, Owens holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami.
