Rep. Burgess Owens, who represents Utah’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing national energy policy and recent political disputes over government funding.
On March 26, 2026, Owens wrote: “Energy security is our national security. Utah is on the cutting edge of meeting our nation’s energy needs with innovative solutions, such as the major geothermal project underway by Fervo Energy in Milford.”
Later that day, he criticized Democratic lawmakers for their role in government shutdowns and disruptions to public services. On March 26, 2026, he stated: “The Democrats own the longest government shutdowns in history. They caused the chaos at our airports, and are failing to fund the people and programs that keep our country safe. They can only govern through inflicting pain. All because they care more about keeping violent”
Continuing his criticism into the next day, Owens commented on legislative battles involving funding for homeland security and related measures. On March 27, 2026, he posted: “The reason that the Democrats are fighting as hard as they are is because they are facing an existential threat. The SAVE America Act, funding DHS, all of these things threaten their party’s very existence because they can’t win in the arena of policies and ideas.”
Owens has served as a U.S. Representative since 2021 after replacing Ben McAdams. He was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently resides in Salt Lake City. Owens graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
