Burgess Owens addresses federal worker buyouts and educational reform

Rep. Burgess Owens, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Utah's 4th district since 2021, has been vocal on various issues through his social media platform. On February 3, 2025, Owens addressed federal workers with a message regarding buyouts. The following day, he expressed concerns about the education system and commemorated Frederick Douglass.

On February 3, Rep. Burgess Owens shared a statement concerning federal employees' options for buyouts: "Federal workers have until Thursday to take a buyout. If you don't have a passion for service, if you're not ready and willing to work hard on behalf of the American people, you should take the 8 months of full pay and move on!"

The next day, February 4, he highlighted educational challenges faced by eighth graders in the United States: "70% of 8th graders can’t read at grade level. This is a crisis—our education system is failing. The ECCA will be a game changer, allowing families to use scholarship funds—without touching public school dollars—to choose the best education for their child."

Later that same day, Owens paid tribute to Frederick Douglass's legacy as an advocate for liberty and equality: "Frederick Douglass, born around 1817, rose from the confines of slavery to become one of America’s most influential voices for liberty and equality. Douglass not only taught himself how to read and write but after escaping north, he used his talents as an orator and writer to..."
