Known for his outspoken views, Owens has been serving in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Ben McAdams.

On February 5, 2025, Owens tweeted about Sojourner Truth, highlighting her resilience and contributions to social justice. He stated: "Sojourner Truth refused to let the injustice of her early life define her future. After securing her freedom, she traveled extensively and became a relentless voice for abolition and women’s rights." He emphasized the impact of Truth's "Ain't I a Woman?" speech.

Later that day, Owens expressed his opinion on the concept of equity. At 17:25 UTC he tweeted: '"Equity" is not an American principle.' He described it as "the tool of despots and Marxists to force their misguided worldview into every part of life through the exponential expanse of government power."

Subsequently at 17:42 UTC, Owens announced an upcoming visit to the White House regarding women's sports policy. He wrote: "We finally have a president who recognizes common sense: biological men have no place competing against women or invading their private spaces." This statement was made in anticipation of President Trump's executive order signing aimed at protecting women's sports.
