Burgess Owens, currently serving as a U.S. Congressman representing Utah's 4th district, recently shared a series of tweets discussing his legislative efforts and engagements with educational leaders. The posts were made on February 13, 2025.

In a tweet posted at 17:56 UTC, Owens announced that his RIFA Act is advancing to the floor as part of Rep. Baumgartner's DETERRENT Act. He stated, "My RIFA Act is headed to the floor in @RepBaumgartner's DETERRENT Act to shine some sunlight on private universities investing in foreign countries that want to harm us." He emphasized the need for these institutions to disclose their financial connections or face consequences.

Later that day, at 20:46 UTC, Owens recounted a productive meeting with Salt Lake Community College President Greg Peterson and two board members. He expressed appreciation for engaging with Utah’s education leaders by saying, "Great conversation with Salt Lake Community College President Greg Peterson and two of SLCC’s Board of Trustees members earlier this week!"

At 21:09 UTC, Owens criticized colleges for promoting degrees he deemed ineffective. He tweeted, "Colleges rake in millions pushing useless degrees that turn our kids into radicals who'd rather destroy the American economy than become a productive part of it." Owens introduced the College Costs Reduction Act aimed at reforming these practices.
