City of South Salt Lake issued the following announcement on April 18.
Riverton City encourages residents, families, and businesses to participate in a 60-second earthquake drill on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. Given the geography of Utah, and our proximity to major fault lines, a major earthquake isn’t a matter of “if” it happens, but “when” it happens. An earthquake can be devastating, but personal preparedness can limit an earthquake’s impact.
We recommend reviewing all the places you spend time (home, work, etc.) to determine what you would do in the event of an earthquake. Here’s what to do to protect yourself in the event of an earthquake:
WHAT TO DO (If Inside)
DROP where you are, onto your hands and knees.
COVER your head and crawl under a desk or table.
HOLD ON to the desk or table until the shaking stops.
WHAT TO DO (If Outside)
Move to a clear area if you can safely do so; avoid power lines, trees, signs, buildings, vehicles and other hazards.
WHAT NOT TO DO (If Inside)
DO NOT get in a doorway! Get under a desk or table instead.
DO NOT run outside while the ground is shaking.
