Burgess Owens, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Utah’s 4th district since 2021, shared his thoughts on various topics through a series of tweets. Owens, who was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1951 and currently resides in Salt Lake City, expressed his views on education and leadership.

On November 19, 2024, Owens reflected on hosting students aspiring for military service academy nominations. He stated: "It was an honor for my team to host this impressive group of students last week who are working toward military service academy nominations. With bright young leaders like these stepping up, the future of our nation will be strong and secure! Keep striving for greatness!"

Later that day, Owens commented on educational challenges faced by underprivileged children in major American cities. He remarked: "In America's major cities, 80%+ of underprivileged children are unable to pass basic reading and writing tests. The Department of Education has failed our students by every available metric. We will bring meritocracy and choice back to education in America."

On November 20, 2024, Owens discussed potential changes under President Trump and Linda McMahon regarding the Department of Education's approach to family empowerment and school accountability. He shared: "Under President Trump and Linda McMahon, the Department of Education will empower families with real choices, hold failing schools accountable, and prepare students to succeed in the real world." His full statement regarding Linda McMahon's nomination as Secretary was linked within the tweet.
