Rep. Burgess Owens, serving Utah's 4th district in Congress since 2021, shared a series of tweets on April 9, 2025, addressing diverse issues from honoring a boxing icon to critiques of education accreditation practices. Owens, a former NFL player who graduated from the University of Miami, has been an influential figure in Utah politics.
In a tweet on April 9, 2025, Rep. Owens expressed his respect for Muhammad Ali's legacy, both inside and outside the boxing ring. "Muhammad Ali was The Greatest Of All Time in the ring, and a global ambassador for peace, dignity, and compassion outside of it." Owens announced his participation in a bipartisan initiative, joining Rep. Andre Carson, to award Ali the Congressional Gold Medal.
Later that day, April 9, 2025, Owens addressed issues within educational accreditation, criticizing the influence of political agendas on curricula. "Radical accreditors are using their power to push DEI into the curriculum, threatening schools that won’t comply with loss of status and access to federal student loans." Owens introduced the ACE Act to eliminate politics from the accreditation process.
Concluding his day's commentary, Owens expressed his gratitude towards the organization Do No Harm on April 9, 2025. He thanked them for their commitment to removing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives from medicine. "Thank you to @donoharm for your support and for your tireless work to get DEI out of medicine."
