City of South Salt Lake issued the following announcement on June 17.
The South Salt Lake Fire Department has been monitoring current drought conditions
and has determined that fireworks, explosive devices, and open flames create a safety
hazard to the community due to the current existing moisture content of vegetation.
We ask that you consider the weather and “Skip another Year” on fireworks discharge
and follow the guidelines listed below.
Discharge Dates:
Between the hours of 11 am and 11 pm except as noted:
July 2 – July 5 (July 4th hours extended to midnight)
July 22 – 25 (July 24th extended to midnight)
December 31 (11 am – 1 am January 1)
Chinese New Year’s Eve (11 am – 1 am the following day)
It is illegal to ignite any firework in any area of the city west of 900 West. It is illegal to
ignite any firework within 20 feet of any residence, dwelling, or other structure. It is
illegal to ignite any firework on property owned by the City of South Salt Lake. It is
illegal to ignite any firework within 200 feet of waterways, trails, canyons, washes,
ravines, or similar areas.
